Soyuz to Launch with UAE’s First Astronaut

The historic launch by Soyuz rocket will take UAE’s first astronaut, Hazzaa AlMansoori in space on September 25, 2019.

The Soyuz rocket was placed into lift up position in Baikonur Cosmodrome facility in Kazakhastan. Baikonur Cosmodrome launch pad No. 1 is the historic launch pad where Yuri Gagarin, first man in space, took its flight on April 12, 1961.

The positioning of the rocket were witnessed by number of officials as it was transported on rail, as per tradition, from the assembly building in Baikonur Cosdrome to launch pad No. 1.

The first Emirati astronaut, Hazzaa Almansoori, is proud to bring the UAE flag to the International Space Station (ISS), as Soyuz spacecraft bears the flags of UAE, USA, and Russia together with the logo of Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center.

In 1966, the Soyuz rocket was first launched by Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation and was built by the Research and Development Center of Progress Rocket Space Center in Samara, Russia.
