The Philippines will build at least 13 lighthouses across its northernmost island, National Security Chief said on September 25- Wednesday.

The announcement was made after an inspection at northern Fuga Island in Aparri, conducted by National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon.

The lighthouse could amount to Php 20 million each, according to Esperon.

“Guide ‘yan sa navigation. It’s for safety of life at sea,” he said. The raising of the Philippine flag and construction of a fisherman’s shelter at Mavulis has the same logic on putting up lighthouses to the northern island of the Philippines.

The construction in Mavulis provided shelter for the fisherman. Also, it is a symbolic gesture of claiming the territory of the Philippines.
