Metro Manila’s newly assigned police chief said he does not want policemen manning the national penitentiary because cops have other jobs, said on Tuesday.

“Iba po ang trabaho ng pulis (The police’s job is different). We are not equipped to deal with prisoners. However, since the BuCor requested us to assist them we have to make do,” Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas told ANC’s Headstart.

The Bureau of Corrections had tapped the metro’s police force after its chief removed personnel from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa in relation with the internal cleansing amid corruption allegations.

“Kung later on, the police becomes the problem and siya ang biniblame na lang, we better pull out the police kung police na ang naging problema.”

Recently, Sinas withdrew 200 officers from the national penitentiary after 16 of his fellow policemen were accused of smuggling contraband in the bilibid.

Furthermore, two other senior policemen face charges after authorities found out that they ordered 2 subordinates to sneak liquor and cigarettes, he added.
