A Magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck in Kidapawan City and 3 other towns in Mindanao on Tuesday, according to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology director, Renato Solidum.
Solidum reported that the quake was recorded at Intensity 7 in Tulunan and Makilala, Cotabato; Kidapawan City; and Malungon, Sarangani.
The shaking was also felt in Davao City, Koronadal City, and Cagayan de Oro City which was recorded at Intensity VI. While, Intensity V in Tampakan, Surallah at Tupi, South Cotabato, Alabel, Sarangani. Intensity IV in places of General Santos City and Kalilangan, Bukidnon. Recorded at Intensity III in Sergio Osmeña Sr., Zamboanga del Norte; Zamboanga City; Dipolog City; Molave, Zamboanga del Norte; Talakag, Bukidnon. Lastly, Camiguin, Mambajao felt the quake at Intensity I.
Furthermore, Solidum explained that the quake is related to the October 16 Magnitude 6.3 earthquake in Mindanao.
“Because of the length of the fault line, it’s possible that only a portion will move or that other faults nearby will move due to stress,” he said.
Moreover, he denied the possibility of a tsunami since the quake happened in the land, “Walang banta ng tsunami dahil nangyari ito sa kalupaan. Wala pong mangyayaring ganun,” he insisted.
Lastly, director Solidum reminded the public not to use damage buildings.
