A magnitude 6.4 earthquake hits Davao Occidental on Sunday Morning, September 29, 2019, Philvocs (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology).
The tremor happened around 10 in the morning, 126 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos town.
The earthquake was felt in the following areas—Intensity IV in General Santos City. — Intensity III in Tampakan, South Cotabato; Kidapawan City; Makilala and Magpet, Cotabato; Davao City; Magsaysay, and Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur; Panabo City; Gingoog City and Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental; Damulog and Kalilangan, Bukidnon. – Intensity II in Cagayan de Oro City; Balingasad, Jasaan, and Villanueva, Misamis Oriental; Kabacan, M’lang, and Tulunan, Cotabato; Columbio and Tacurog City, Sulatan Kudarat. – Intensity I in Bislig City and Cagayan de Oro City.
According to Jun Jaso, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (MDRRMO), residents of Malita town in Davao Occidental also experienced shaking since they were only two town away from the epicenter.
The tremor, with epicenter latitude / longitude: 5.75°N / 126.57°E (Philippines), had an estimated energy of 42,502 tons of TNT (equivalent to 2.7 atomic bombs).
Meanwhile, Roger Deloy, Jose Abad Santos local disaster officer, said residents were not ordered to evacuate since the quake did not last long.
The quake was not expected to cause structural damage and no unusual movement of the sea was recorded.
