Vice President Leonor “Leni” Robredo insisted on Sunday that she would not attend Cabinet meetings unless invited by Duterte’s administration, emphasizing that coordinating with agencies will be the priority at this point.
“On my part, I will attend the Cabinet meetings if I’m invited,” she said. “But if I’m not invited, I won’t attend since they were the ones who asked me to desist from attending the meetings anyway.”
Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo insisted that Robredo’s appointment as co-chair of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) gave her a Cabinet seat, but the Vice President stressed that the designation was not stated in the memorandum issued by Duterte.
The ICAD post was offered by the President to the opposition leader Robredo after the administration was criticized against its bloody fight in the drug dilemma in the country.
Referring to the data from the Dangerous Drugs Board and the President himself, the Bicolana Vice President said the number of drug users increased to eight million from seven million in 2019, adding that only 1.8 million were listed as drug users when Duterte assumed office in 2016.
Robredo noted that she plans to stop the killings of the innocent and the abuses committed by the officials.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency have only registered 5,500 human casualties against the drug war, nowhere near as human rights group counted as many as 27,000 deaths.
