Coming from his Russia visit, President Rodrigo Duterte assured that public school teachers’ salary increase

would happen this year.

“Mas marami ang teachers, my God, pero nandiyan po, darating ‘yan, this year,” he told reporters.

However, the Duterte did not give and exact date for the salary increase. He explained, “If I give you the timeline, tapos I could not make it on the deadline, I have to explain more than what is expected of the government. Mas mabuti na ‘yang nandiyan na, sinasabi ko, nandiyan na ‘yan. Basta sinasabi ko, may increase din sila. That I’m very sure of.”

Uproar for teachers’ salary increase rose after pay boosts for police officers, soldiers, and other uniformed personnel last year.

Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto was the one who proposed new ranks for teachers and higher salary grades with respect to their rank.

Today, entry-level teachers with Salary Grade 11 under Tranche 4 of the Salary Standardization Law have a gross salary of P20754, monthly.
