President Rodrigo Duterte left for Japan to attend the enthronement ceremony of Emperor Naruhito on Monday night, October 21.
Duterte’s plane was headed to Tokyo at around 6:30, Monday evening.
President Duterte along with 100 foreign leaders attended the enthronement on Tuesday, October 22, at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. He will also be guesting for the Emperor’s Banquet, dated on the same day, and lastly, the Prime Minister’s Banquet on Wednesday, October 23, said by Presidential spox Salvador Panelo.
The spokesman insisted that Duterte was contemplating in attending the ceremony.
“He said he has so many work to do. He might just send somebody,” said Panelo on September 23.
On the other hand, the Department of Foreign Affairs recommended that the President should attend the historic occasion, given the strong ties between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Duterte’s visit in Japan was cut short when he complained about “unbearable” back pain. The President is set to consult with his neurologist on Wednesday, Panelo said.
Lastly, Panelo reassures the public that “there is nothing to worry [about] as regards the physical health and condition of the President.”
