A classmate or in Military language known as “mistah” of General Oscar Albayalde at the Philippine Military Academy assumed post as Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge (OIC) after Albayalde resigned ahead of this mandatory retirement.
Police Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa and Lt. Gen. Oscar Albayalde were both from PMA Sinagtala Class of 1986. Lt. Gen. Gamboa served as commander of the PNP National Security Task Force for the 2019 midterm elections.
As Albayalde’s exit was sooner than expected, 4 PNP officials are one list to be the next chief.
“As OIC, I take the responsibility to manage all activities of the PNP command group, ably assisted by 10 directorial staff. With this responsibility, I assure the continuous implementation of all ongoing campaign plans, on internal security, anti-criminality, anti-illegal drugs and anti-corruption in line with the national priorities and direction of President Rodrigo Duterte,” Gamboa told reporters in Camp Crame.
On the other hand, Albayalde was head of Pampanga police when 13 of his subordinates were accused of looting seized illegal drugs in 2013.
In a Senate hearing, former police official Benjamin Magalong claimed that Albayalde delayed the dismissal order against his former subordinates, which Albayalde denied.
