Amidst the Joker’s controversial violent scenes before airing, the R-rated movie hit a $93.5 million in the weekend and now holds the record as the biggest October launch of all time.
Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker was criticized to promote violence to moviegoers. However, this fuss created a great marketing strategy for batman’s foe to crush the record set by “venom” last year.
The joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix, prompts added security measures for movie theaters as it showcases intense action-packed scenes. New York and Los Angeles police increased their presence in movie theaters to prevent a mishap from happening. Back in 2012, a mass shooting transpired in Aurora, Cola after the midnight screening of “The Dark Knight Rises,” this event left 12 people dead and 70 injured.
On the other hand, Joker was awarded the top prize at this year’s Venice Film Festival, Audiences scored the film B+ Cinema Score this weekend.
Meanwhile, the film reportedly cost $55 million dollars not including global marketing and distribution fees. The Joker, with stars Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Frances Conroy, earned $7.5 million at 392 venues in Imax showings. To add, the film earned $12 million for a domestic haul of $37.8 million.
