A seasoned man in the field of nursing
DUBAI – He considers himself as a seasoned man in the field of nursing. Based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, he conceptualized advocacies such as reaching out to the OFW nurses in remote areas in Saudi. He brings Masters of Science in Nursing through St. Paul’s University Philippines as a distance learning education and Special Professional Licensure Boards Examination (SPLBE) for under board OFW nurses.
Arlene Navarro is the founder and currently the president of the Philippine Nurses Association – Eastern Region, Saudi Arabia (PNA-ERSA), and an awardee of the Outstanding Migrant Worker 2015 award, the highest for a community leader given by the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh.
Navarro was also cited as the 2014 Leader of Healthcare by International Biography based in Ireland.
Navarro’s skills today were honed at St. Patrick’s Hospital Medical Center where he used to work as a staff nurse. He then took care of school children as Public Health Nurse in the Division of City Schools in Batangas City. He was also able to put up the very first Child Minding and Therapy Center in Batangas City that made a mark for others to follow.
With his passion for excellence, his leadership in PNA made a big impact in Saudi Arabia in spite of the strict rule.
Presently, he manages and puts into place the renewal of PRC license in Saudi Arabia, helping the distressed OFW nurses and promoting PNA membership.
PNA-ERSA intends to establish links with government institutions to assist distressed OFWs, promotes continuing education among its members, and promotes health and wellness among Filipinos in the Kingdom.
Navarro was called as the face and voice of the nurses in Saudi Arabia because of his active participation in the same field.
A student and youth leader
He finished his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the Lyceum of Batangas University, Post-Graduate Course of Occupational Health and Safety in University of the Philippines-Manila and now finishing his Master of Science in Nursing in St. Paul’s University, Philippines.
During his college days, it was evident that the multi-talented Navarro has the ability to conquer the world.
At first, he excelled in oratorical competitions in and out of school premises. He then became a reporter, news editor, feature editor until he reached the managing director position of The Lycean, the official school publication of the Lyceum of Batangas.
Navarro also became the charter president of the Rotary Club of Batangas. His dedication as a youth leader proved him to be so efficient that made the Rotary Club of Batangas, in coordination with the Rotary Club International, to induct him as the official youth representative in Calgary, Canada for the Youth International Forum.
On the lighter side, he was also singing and represented the school in different competitions like the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) and some local singing contests in and out of the school for which he gave such an honor to his alma mater.
Making the sojourn remarkable
While working in the Arab country, Navarro became part in forming Batangueno ng Saudi Arabia (BANSA) and was appointed as charter secretary. BANSA aims to promote camaraderie among Batanguenos and bring them the good news of the reintegration program.
“Hindi habang buhay ay OFW tayo. Ito ay may hangganan. At kung dumating ang puntong ito, marapat lamang na nasa maayos ang ating pamilya.
“At pagbalik sa Pilipinas ay sisimulan na naman natin ang panibagong pahina ng ating buhay. At inaasahan ko na di na muling babalik sa disyerto at magsisilbi sa mga Arabo.
“Mangyayari lang ito kung kayo ay nakapaghanda. Anong paghahandang iyon? Sariling bahay, negosyo at edukasyon sa mga anak,” he said.
Navarro is one of the most sought after speakers when it comes to nursing leadership and entrepreneurship, occupational health and safety, patient’s safety, among others, across the GCC.
He was instrumental in bringing the Board Examination for under-board nurses in the Kingdom which has run for almost three years now.
He chaired the last year’s SPLBE that marked and produced a topnotcher from Nursing Licensure Examination in the person of Emmanuel Jason from Qatar.
Navarro is the person behind the Middle East Online Review through Carl Balita that caters to all under-board nurses to review online at their own time and comfort.
