ABU DHABI – The annual sports endeavor of the DHL company for its employees in the UAE dubbed “DHL Cup 2017” has concluded with basketball championship games held recently in Dubai that brought friends and families into great fun, solidarity and camaraderie.

Equally skillful teams, Raiders and Aviators, played the final game that drew the crowd to excitement and cheering. After the last battle, Raiders was named champion of the basketball tournament.

The Aviators and the Wizard teams were first runners-up and 2nd runners-up, respectively.

DHL Country Manager Geoff Walsh said, “Tournament like this is all about staff having a great time and opportunity to be together and have fun. In doing this, we look at lots of values, like respect with one another. It’s not about winning, but it’s about how motivated and happy people we become in this kind of environment.”

The DHL Cup is an annual sports activity of the company, hosting games for cricket, football, volleyball and basketball of their employees in UAE.

“We have been holding this for many years in the company for our staff to go outside their work and have fun—fostering trust and respect,” Geoff added.

During the closing ceremonies, the awarding of winners for the volleyball and basketball tournaments was highlighted.

For volleyball, the Wizards team made it to the champion’s title while the Kings and Avengers team were the 1st and 2nd runners-up, respectively.

The tournament was managed and powered by CMP Sports Management LLC in Dubai with sports coordinator Christopher Flores.

Other awardees included Basketball’s Mythical Players: Noel Ancheta (Kings Abu Dhabi); Sherwyn Enriquez (Raiders); Pilthom Angub (Avengers); Eugene Dela Cruz (Aviators); Hadji Soriano (Wizards).

Finals MVP is Elmer Corona (Raiders); Seasons MVP – Delfin Lubao (Raiders); and Best Coach- Marlon Martinez (Raiders).

For volleyball, the Mythical Players are Stirin Job; Umair Sheik; Hadji Soriano; Ganesh Liri;  Linkan Alexander and Upul Shantha. 

Named Most Valuable Player is George Nduta (Wizards).
